Case Study: Cyacomb

Meet Cyacomb

Cyacomb, previously Cyan Forensics, was founded in 2016 by Ian Stevenson, CEO, and Bruce Ramsay, a former police forensic analyst and now the company’s CTO. A new generation of technology born out of a research project at Edinburgh Napier University, Cyacomb’s tools enable police to find evidence of child abuse or terrorist activity on suspect’s computers in just minutes. Thereby replacing processes that previously took many hours in a forensics lab, weeks or months after an arrest.

An Edinburgh-based tech company, Cyacomb has created new technology that aspires to solve a serious and growing issue faced by society today. Its tools find and block harmful online content including child sexual abuse and terrorist activity. Since its inception, Cyacomb has raised over £8m from investors and has been recognised by the UK Government as offering “game-changing” tech. In March 2021, Cyacomb successfully completed a Series A investment round of just over £5 million led by Par Equity.

Involvement in the Cyber Cluster

Cyacomb has been a ScotlandIS member since 2016. Since then, Cyacomb has presented for ScotlandIS at several online safety technology talks and webinars, including the Tech For Good Scotland Summit in 2020.
